Some people think of horseback riding as a vacation activity—they pay by the hour and get to sit on a horse as they pass through lush, exotic scenery. After an hour or so, they return to the stable and go on to the next tourist opportunity. There are places to do that sort of riding. Foxwin Farm is not one of them.

Other people think of horseback riding as an activity they can learn in an afternoon, or a weekend. Once they’ve learned where their feet go, where their butt goes, and where their hands go, they’re set. They can get on a horse and ride any old time. There are places for that sort of rider. Foxwin Farm is not one.

There are, however, people who think horseback riding is an art, a sport, a discipline to be engaged in with all the passion and intellectual energy of any academic or artistic pursuit, coupled with the physical dedication of any athletic endeavor. Foxwin Farm takes this approach.

There are places where horseback riding is called “schooling”—where horse and rider never “complete” their training, where ongoing education is respected, relished, encouraged, and embraced with heartfelt, earnest appreciation. Foxwin Farm is one of these places.

Foxwin Farm has been breeding quality Morgan horses for over 40 years, intentionally choosing to work with an American horse unmatched in intelligence, integrity, and honest willingness to work and grow with training. For these same 40 years, Foxwin Farm has chosen the path of classical dressage in the tradition of the European masters, training horses and riders in the fundamentals of a balanced seat and harmony of motion, a foundation from which both horse and rider can emerge prepared for any discipline.

The school horses at Foxwin Farm have all been bred, raised, and trained in this environment of respect, curiosity, and engagement with the learning process. They are experienced and intelligent horses, capable of assessing their riders’ abilities and working with them until both rider and trainer give instruction to move forward to the next level.

At Foxwin, we believe the journey with the horse is never over, that there is always something new to learn, always room for improvement in riding, in horsemanship, in the relationship between horse and rider. To that end, we maintain an ever-growing library of books, articles, videos, and other electronic media to enhance the education process. We ourselves take every opportunity to clinic with those more, or differently, experienced than we are, and we encourage our students to do the same.

Foxwin Farm caters to students, learners of all ages, experiences, and backgrounds, who are interested in fostering an ongoing, lifelong educational experience with horses. We welcome students interested in this challenge and serious about the discipline of horseback riding, people who agree that there is nothing more fun than to get better at working with horses.
