Foxwin Farm Lesson Policy
- Preparedness
- Cancellations
- Emergencies
- Weather
Students are expected to arrive at the barn, on-time and properly dressed for their lessons. Instruction begins upon arrival, and students are expected to participate in the grooming, tacking up, and preparation of their riding horse. Students are encouraged to eliminate unnecessary distractions such as cell phones, snacks, and dogs. The horses and instructor deserves the full attention of the student at all times.
Minimum proper attire includes a riding boot/shoe with minimum heel for safe stirrup operation and an ASTM approved riding helmet. New students may borrow a helmet from the Foxwin tack room for their first 5 lessons, but should invest in their own if they wish to continue.
Lessons must be cancelled by the student and/or parent/guardian no later than 48 hours before scheduled start time. Lessons cancelled in this manner will be re-scheduled at no cost to the student. Students/parents who cancel with less than 48 hours notice will be charged the full lesson rate.
Every effort will be made by Foxwin Farm staff to provide this same 48 hour timeframe, but the nature of working with live animals often means that unexpected circumstances arrive quickly. Should Foxwin Farm need to cancel a lesson without alternative educational option, the lesson will be re-scheduled at no charge to the student.
Foxwin Farm is well aware that emergencies beyond the control of the student can occur. Sudden illness or injury or other extenuating circumstances will be given consideration and lessons may be re-scheduled or offered at reduced rates at the discretion of the instructor.
Due to the fact that all riding at Foxwin Farm occurs outdoors, in the natural environment, the weather may have an influence on riding conditions. Students should plan to dress for the weather conditions. On occasion, the weather may prohibit riding; however, Foxwin Farm believes strongly in the classical notion that instruction in Horsemanship goes far beyond the just riding horses. The education of the student takes place in the schooling arena, in the stable, on the farm, and in the library.
In the case of inclement weather prohibiting safe riding, instruction will be moved indoors, and the student’s education will continue in any of the following: Anatomical instruction and horse-handling; Nutritional instruction and overview; Equipment instruction, review, disassembly/ reassembly and cleaning; Stable Management introduction and practices; Educational Videos on riding, horsemanship, safety, etc.
In extreme weather emergencies, when travel conditions are unsafe, of course, lessons may be rescheduled at no charge to the student.
